The Russell 2000, maintained by FTSE Russell, tracks about 2,000 smaller U.S. companies (small caps).
Because its companies are more domestically focused and more sensitive to borrowing costs, it is often read as a gauge of the U.S. domestic economy and of interest-rate expectations.
