While voting continues in Brazil until 5 p.m., polling stations in Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa and part of Europe have already closed in the runoff between Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) on Sunday (Oct. 25). The voting machine reports from these stations were published by Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) and show partial results in each country before the official tally, which starts at 5 p.m. Brasília time.

About 918,000 Brazilians are eligible to vote abroad, in 186 cities in 134 countries, a little over 0.5% of the electorate. Outside Brazil, voters cast a ballot only for president.

Japan, home to one of the largest Brazilian communities abroad, alone accounts for about 61% of the valid votes on this list. In the other countries, the number of voters per station is much smaller, from a few dozen to a few thousand.

Why the numbers change throughout the day

Abroad, voting runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. local time in each country. Because of time zones, stations in Oceania and Asia close overnight and in the morning Brasília time. Each machine, when closed, issues a report with the votes cast at that station, which is available for public consultation.

Results from European countries started coming in early in the afternoon, and those from the Americas, such as the United States, Canada and South American neighbors, are expected only in the late afternoon and evening. The figures above are therefore partial and do not indicate the overall result abroad or the national result.

Official tally from 5 p.m.

From 5 p.m., the TSE starts releasing the official tally, which combines votes cast in Brazil and abroad. Figures can be followed on resultados.tse.jus.br and in the Resultados app.
